THE QUESTION

I started my gainit journey long before I discovered this subreddit. However, I think it's great that gainers of reddit have a place to share words of wisdom and motivate each other. There's a lot of good tips on this subreddit. As silly as it sounds, gaining improved my life for the better. I'm sure many of you can relate. I started a blog post a long time ago before I found /gainit to share some of the tips that have worked for me over the years. I finally got around to finishing it and I'm hoping to see what you guys think. I'm open to feedback if you think I missed anything important. Hopefully some folks can get a few useful tips as well. Note that this is only on the diet element, I plan to do a write-up on routines next. [linky](

TL;DR

Meal prepping and nutrition planning can be challenging, but focusing on progress over perfection is key. Practical strategies like budgeting and minimizing food waste can help make healthy eating more sustainable.

THE RESPONSE

What’s actually going on here

I feel your pain, my friend. Trying to get a handle on meal prepping and nutrition planning can feel like a never-ending uphill battle. The truth is, the challenges you're facing are totally understandable. When you're dealing with a packed schedule, a tight budget, and a fridge full of forgotten veggies, it's no wonder the "eat healthy" advice often falls flat. The root of the problem is that most meal prep guidance focuses on perfection over progress. They expect you to have an iron-clad weekly menu, military-grade food storage, and the kitchen skills of a Top Chef contestant. In reality, life is messy, schedules are unpredictable, and the last thing you want to do after a long day is slave over a hot stove. The good news is, there's a simpler way forward. Start by resetting the foundations with The Foundation Reset from our "Kitchen Chaos Fix" guide. This involves getting crystal clear on your core dietary needs (protein, fiber, flavor) and stocking up on versatile "building block" ingredients. Then, put The Flexible Integration Method into practice - this is all about mixing, matching, and riffing on those core elements to create satisfying meals with minimal effort. The real game-changer, though, is The Strategic Ingredient Overlap System. By intentionally planning overlapping ingredients across your meals, you can drastically reduce food waste and save a ton of time. Pair this with the Potluck Contribution System (rotating who provides what for shared meals), and you've got a simple, sustainable way to eat well without all the hassle. When you get this system dialed in, meal prep transforms from a chore into a liberating ritual. You'll feel energized, satisfied, and in control of your nutrition - no more stressing over what to eat or throwing out spoiled food. It's a game-changer, I promise.
