THE QUESTION

Felt demotivated today. Just suck hearing that Im smelly and my clothes look like shit. I can’t do anything about it, not because Im too lazy but I just literally cannot afford to get new clothes and had to get my office attire at thrift stores which are mostly baggy and looked worn out. I used all my money to get clothes to follow “dress code”. I wanna stay optimistic and keep on trying coz I know that its the right thing to do but it just felt like shit and I dont know how Ill show up to work tomorrow because I literally don’t have a choice but to wear the clothes that I have. I walk to work for almost an hour every day so I tend to sweat and I cant afford to get a deodorant at the moment even from the cheapest once. Im trying my hardest but life is just too shit. I cant even buy d...

TL;DR

Hurtful coworker comments reflect their issues, not yours. Focus on self-confidence, not their opinions. Maintain motivation by affirming your own worth, regardless of others' judgments.

THE RESPONSE

What’s actually going on here

I'm so sorry to hear that your coworker has been saying hurtful things about your appearance. It's natural to feel really hurt and demotivated when someone says cruel things like that. But remember, their words say more about them than they do about you. The underlying issue here is a lack of self-confidence - when we don't feel secure in who we are, we become overly sensitive to the opinions of others. The first step is to do a "reality audit" and examine where these feelings of inadequacy are coming from. Often it's rooted in negative self-talk and unhealthy comparisons. The Voice Replacement System in our guide can help you identify and replace those critical inner voices with more compassionate self-talk. Practice being your own best friend - what would you say to a loved one in this situation? Secondly, focus on building real social connections. Surround yourself with people who make you feel accepted and valued for who you are. The Best Friend Protocol can teach you how to cultivate those meaningful relationships. Lean on your support system when you're feeling down. Finally, make promises to yourself and follow through. Even small acts of self-care and discipline can boost your confidence over time. The Mental Rehearsal Technique can help you visualize success and interrupt the negative thought patterns. With patience and consistent effort, you can quiet that critical inner voice and cultivate unshakeable self-worth. When you stop living for others' approval, you'll be free to embrace your authentic self - and that's when the real magic happens.
