A real question from r/Dogtraining that deserves a real answer. Not generic advice — specific steps.
We have three dogs. Two pitbulls and a pitbull mix, all female. I will use pseudonyms to protect their privacy, and for clarity. Murdermom is the oldest, she is a pitbull. Lovechild is a mix and the daughter of Murdermom. A couple of years ago, Murdermom and Lovechild started getting into bloody death matches whenever they were together – instigated by Murdermom. I have read that when females become antagonistic like this, it's not about dominance; they will fight to the death. We have managed to keep them separated since this problem started, but there have been accidents (i.e. somebody forgets to close a door) which always result in bloody death matches that is are difficult to break up. The third dog is Babypit, a pitbull, the youngest, and the most passive and gentle of the three....
Antagonistic dogs can be managed by addressing underlying training issues. Use muzzles to safely introduce dogs, then focus on building confidence and obedience through structured activities. With the right approach, you can resolve these behavior problems.
We've all been there - the endless barking, lunging, and chaos that comes with antagonistic dogs. It's exhausting, demoralizing, and can make you question whether dog ownership is really for you. But I want you to know that there is a path forward, and the "Dog Training Fix" guide has the roadmap to get you there. The root cause of this behavior often comes down to a lack of foundational training. Dogs are pack animals, and they're constantly looking to you for guidance on how to behave. When that guidance isn't there, they'll default to their natural instincts - which can mean aggression, fear, and general mayhem. The Recall Rebuild System and Attention Economy System outlined in the guide are game-changers here, helping you re-establish yourself as the confident leader your dog needs. Start by implementing the Foundation Reset - this is all about going back to basics, using the Three-Second Freeze and Redirect with Purpose techniques to reinforce calm, obedient behavior. Once you've laid that groundwork, move on to the Specific Solutions Protocol. This is where you'll tackle the antagonistic behaviors head-on, using Jackpot Success to reward the right actions and Instant Withdrawal to nip the wrong ones in the bud. The key is to be patient, consistent, and not give up. With time and dedication, you'll start to see a profound shift in your dog's demeanor. Gone will be the constant tension and conflict, replaced by a harmonious partnership built on trust and respect. You'll be able to confidently take your dog out in public, mingle with other pups, and enjoy the companionship you always dreamed of. It's life-changing, I promise.
